Overview

Limited Government Edition (Trial Proof No. 1) is the definitive artifact of the Consentivus project—the moment satire crossed into enforceable constitutional reality.

This one-of-one work unites three inseparable elements:

1. The Trial Proof Can
A brushed aluminum Consentivus Can, physically stamped: LIMITED GOVERNMENT EDITION — TRIAL PROOF

2. The Government Record
The original, filed, time-stamped permit issued by a state government authorizing the public installation under binding First Amendment public-forum law. This document is framed and authenticated as part of the artwork.

3. The Prototype (Process Proof)
The original 32 oz demo can with paper wrapper used during design testing—included as evidentiary material, not as a separate artwork.

This is a closed set. None of the components are offered individually.

Description

This work does not depict free speech.
It documents it surviving review.

The Trial Proof Can exists because a government body reviewed the application, applied the law, and approved the installation. That approval transformed a satirical object into a constitutional artifact.

The included prototype records the final moment before the law entered the object.

Together, these elements form a complete chain of custody:

  • Concept
  • Prototype
  • Government action
  • Enforceable outcome

Nothing here is symbolic. Everything is evidentiary.

Why This Is the Flagship Work

  • One-of-one — cannot be editioned, recreated, or replicated
  • Jurisdiction-specific — inseparable from a real government approval
  • Legally authenticated — original public record included
  • Historically anchored — tied to active First Amendment doctrine
  • Institution-ready — acquisition-grade documentation provided

This is the moment authority blinked—and left a paper trail.

About Chaz Stevens

Chaz Stevens is a nationally recognized political artist whose medium is bureaucracy. From beer-can Festivus poles to Satan or Silence campaigns, he uses art and process as blunt instruments for exposing hypocrisy.

“I’m not here to raise awareness. I’m here to make the system flinch.”
— Chaz Stevens

If it stands, the Constitution still works.
If it doesn’t, the failure is already documented.
Either way, the audit is complete.
