How We Exposed a Fraudulent Mayoral Candidate & Took Back Election Integrity

In the fight for election integrity and democracy, activist Chaz Stevens took decisive action to expose mayoral candidate Dan Herz’s fraudulent campaign in Deerfield Beach, Florida. This was not just a political battle—it was about protecting voters from misinformation, dishonesty, and election fraud.

To ensure this was not seen as a personal or partisan attack, Stevens suspended his own campaign and endorsed Todd Drosky, Herz’s opponent. This wasn’t about winning—it was about making sure Deerfield Beach didn’t lose.

Background: The 2025 Deerfield Beach Mayoral Election

Located in South Florida, Deerfield Beach is a diverse coastal city with a strong tourism industry and an engaged political community. On March 11, 2025, voters will elect their next mayor in a nonpartisan election (NPA)—meaning candidates don’t run under party labels. However, ideology is still a major factor.

The Three Candidates:
  • Chaz Stevens (Me) – A progressive activist, Democrat, and government watchdog. I initially ran but stepped aside to stop Dan Herz from taking office.
  • Todd Drosky – A Republican-leaning city commissioner, but not a MAGA extremist. While we disagree on many policies, I believe he has integrity and is committed to the city.
  • Dan Herz – A far-right MAGA-aligned candidate with serious legal and ethical concerns. His residency is questionable, his financial filings are inconsistent, and his campaign is built on deception.

This race is about stopping an unqualified, dishonest candidate from gaining power—not party politics.

The Challenge: Exposing Dan Herz’s Election Fraud

Herz should never have been on the ballot. The evidence against him was overwhelming:

1. False Residency Claims

  • Herz filed for office in Deerfield Beach while maintaining a homestead exemption and mortgage in Plantation—proving he legally resides outside the city.

2. Contradictory Financial Filings

  • In October 2024, Herz claimed “single” on a mortgage application.
  • By December 2024, he listed himself as “married” on other financial documents.
  • These inconsistencies raise serious concerns about mortgage fraud or financial misrepresentation.

3. Evading Legal Service

  • When a process server attempted to serve Herz with a lawsuit challenging his eligibility, he literally hid inside his apartment.
  • A woman named Maria—who claimed to live there—tried to cover for him.
  • This publicly documented act of evasion damaged his credibility even further.

4. Election Officials Refused to Act

  • The City Clerk and Supervisor of Elections avoided taking a stance, shifting responsibility to the courts.
  • Without a legal challenge, Herz would have remained on the ballot unchallenged, deceiving voters.

Had Herz gone unchecked, it would have set a dangerous precedent that unqualified candidates could exploit the system and get elected through deception.

It’s up to me … okay, so I am good with that, give me the fucking ball coach, send me in.

BUT I NEED YOUR HELP.

The Strategy: How We Took Action Against Election Fraud

Using a combination of legal expertise, media exposure, and public pressure, Chaz Stevens executed a multi-pronged strategy to hold Herz accountable.

1. Legal Action & Research

  • Filed a pro se lawsuit in Broward Circuit Civil Court, seeking emergency injunctive relief to block Herz’s candidacy.
  • Cited multiple election violations, including false residency claims, mortgage fraud concerns, and election fraud under Fla. Stat. § 104.011 (False Swearing).
  • Exposed Herz’s conflicting financial records, proving he misrepresented his marital status on legal documents.

2. Public Awareness & Media Engagement

  • Brought Herz’s fraud to light through media coverage, ensuring voters knew the truth.
  • Exposed his cowardly attempt to evade legal service, making headlines.
  • Forced election officials to publicly acknowledge the controversy, increasing scrutiny.

3. Regulatory Challenges & Election Oversight

  • Filed complaints with election oversight authorities, compelling them to respond.
  • Pressured the City Clerk and Supervisor of Elections to confront Herz’s fraudulent residency claim.
  • Escalated the case to the State Attorney’s Office and Florida Elections Commission for further investigation.

The Outcome: Setting a Precedent for Fighting Election Fraud

While the legal process is ongoing, the State Attorney’s Office (SAO) has been called to investigate Herz, and the public is now fully aware of his deception. Herz’s campaign is in damage control mode, and election officials are facing mounting pressure to act before votes are cast.

Regardless of the final ruling, this case has already proven one thing: fraudulent candidates can and will be challenged. The days of corrupt politicians lying their way into office without resistance are over.

What Comes Next? Stopping Election Fraud Beyond Deerfield Beach

Herz is just one example of how bad actors manipulate the system—but this fight doesn’t end with him. The real victory is proving that election fraud can be exposed and stopped, city by city, election by election.

If election officials won’t do their jobs, then it’s up to activists, watchdogs, and citizens to hold them accountable.

Key Takeaways: Lessons from the Fight for Election Integrity

  • Election Fraud Can Be Stopped – Unqualified, deceptive candidates should not be allowed to run unchecked.
  • Legal Strategy + Public Pressure = Results – A combination of legal challenges, media exposure, and government oversight forces accountability.
  • Integrity Over Party Politics – This wasn’t about winning an election—it was about defending democracy.
