Satanology Challenges Brevard Schools
Activist Chaz Stevens, founder of The Church of Satanology and Perpetual Soirée, is taking on religious favoritism in Brevard County, Florida. Stevens, known for provocative First Amendment challenges, has formally requested that five high schools display banners from his satirical organization. His intent: expose unfair religious bias and uphold secular neutrality, especially emphasizing support for LGBTQ+ students and equal treatment of all beliefs in public spaces.
Previously, Stevens successfully forced Broward County Schools to reconsider their policies after he was denied permission to display a “Satan Loves the First Amendment” banner, while Christian church advertisements remained. His activism is less about genuine religious promotion and more about constitutional fairness, calling it “First Amendment judo” that leverages existing policies against religious discrimination.
Citing Florida statutes requiring equal access for religious and secular groups in public schools, Stevens has specifically targeted Palm Bay Magnet High School among others, claiming a religious banner is already displayed there. While Brevard officials have not yet confirmed the existence of such banners, Stevens remains committed, emphasizing his campaign is fundamentally about fairness, secular rights, and constitutional equality.
