Deerfield Beach Ends BSO Contract: Facts, Not Fear

Deerfield Beach Ends BSO Contract: Facts, Not Fear
Allow me to retort.
“People over politics” sounds great.
Until the same office offers to pay for the study that decides whether it keeps the contract.
That’s not independence.
That’s a do-over.
The City didn’t ignore facts.
It declined a vendor-funded redo offered only after the vendor saw the vote slipping.
Calling a study “flawed” because it didn’t land where you wanted isn’t analysis.
It’s self-interest.
Law enforcement arguing to preserve its own contract should expect scrutiny. That’s not hostility. That’s governance.
As for the poll –
If surveys decided contracts, we wouldn’t need commissioners. We’d need clipboards.
Commissioners are elected to weigh cost, risk, control, and long-term exposure.
Not to extend a deal because it’s familiar.
The City exercised a lawful option.
No one was silenced.
No one was endangered.
No one was entitled to renewal.
Oversight doesn’t weaken public safety.
It’s how you protect it.
And when someone says “facts, not politics” right after losing a vote, that’s usually projection.
This wasn’t emotion.
It was math.
The contract ended.
The badge didn’t.
The City chose to govern.
